Human Restart Participates in Dialogue on Vocational Training and Employment Prospects in Syria
Human Restart participated in a specialised dialogue addressing the future of vocational training and employment in Syria, with a focus on strengthening cooperation between actors inside the country and Syrian expertise abroad to support skills development and improve links with labour-market needs.
The online session took place on 7 September 2026 and was organised by Plattform Neuanfang für Syrien in cooperation with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training and Employment in Syria project, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Agency for International Cooperation).
The session brought together experts, initiatives and organisations engaged in training, skills development and employment to exchange perspectives, identify current needs and explore opportunities for future cooperation.
Connecting skills with labour-market needs
Discussions addressed several areas relevant to the future of Syria’s labour market, including the development of vocational education and training, better alignment of skills with labour-market demand, improved employability and stronger engagement with the private sector.
Participants also explored the potential contribution of Syrian expertise abroad through knowledge and professional expertise transfer, partnership building, business networks and the development of training initiatives more closely connected to economic opportunities and labour-market needs inside Syria.
The dialogue also provided an opportunity to examine existing initiatives and potential avenues for cooperation and support that could contribute to human capital development, employment opportunities and economic recovery in Syria.
From training to opportunity
Human Restart’s participation reflects the organisation’s commitment to developing training and capacity-building programmes that respond more closely to the actual needs of communities and the labour market while strengthening connections between expertise inside Syria and Syrian and international networks abroad.
Human Restart considers it increasingly important to move beyond training as a stand-alone activity and towards integrated pathways that connect knowledge with skills, skills with employment and employment with sustainable economic opportunities.
The organisation will continue to explore relevant cooperation opportunities and initiatives in skills development, vocational training and employment, with the aim of developing programmes and partnerships capable of generating tangible and sustainable impact in Syria.
Skills create greater value when they lead to opportunity, and expertise creates greater impact when it leads to partnership.
