From Germany to Damascus: Human Restart Expands Partnerships for Workforce Development in Syria

Damascus, Syria | 2026

As part of its growing focus on employer-driven workforce development, Human Restart Syria participated in Job Gate 5 in Damascus, bringing together more than **54 local, regional and international companies and 15 start-ups across a wide range of sectors.

During the event, the Human Restart team held a series of discussions with representatives from companies and institutions working in human resources, recruitment, technology, education, services, commerce and industry.

The discussions focused on identifying current and anticipated workforce needs, understanding skills gaps, and exploring opportunities to design training and qualification programmes directly linked to real employment demand.

Human Restart follows an employer-led approach to workforce development. Rather than beginning with predefined training courses, the organisation starts by identifying occupations in demand, analysing competency gaps and working with employers and partners to translate these needs into measurable and scalable training interventions.

Since its establishment in 2014, Human Restart has worked across education, training, skills development, capacity building and institutional support. Over this period, the organisation has delivered 92 projects and activities across 23 cities, reaching approximately 2,365 beneficiaries and engaging with 61 institutions.

Today, Human Restart is advancing a new phase of its work in Syria, focused on strengthening the connection between employers, training providers, educational institutions, public authorities and international partners.

Current areas of engagement include administration, human resources, finance, customer service, sales, digital skills and other occupational areas identified directly by employers as priorities.

The organisation aims to develop partnerships that move beyond stand-alone training and towards employment-linked, demand-driven workforce programmes with measurable outcomes and potential for scale.

Human Restart Syria welcomes engagement with international organisations, donors, government institutions, private-sector companies, chambers of commerce and industry, universities and training providers interested in developing joint initiatives in:

workforce development, employment-linked training, skills development, training of trainers, institutional capacity building and private-sector engagement.
